Rolls-Royce SMR and Great British Energy Nuclear sign Wylfa contract
The contract was reported to include up to £599 million from the National Wealth Fund, three reactors of 1.4 GWe in total and around 5,000 UK supply chain jobs. Reported timelines differ between sources.
A contract between Rolls-Royce SMR and Great British Energy Nuclear for the Wylfa site was reported in April 2026. Reports mention up to £599 million from the National Wealth Fund, a £2.6 billion allocation from the Spending Review, three reactors with a combined 1.4 GWe, around 3,000 peak jobs and around 5,000 UK supply chain jobs.
A note on timing
Sources disagree on construction and first power dates, and some earlier reports pointed to the mid 2030s. A final investment decision still depends on design, regulatory and planning work. Treat any single date with caution.
