Uniper names Worley as preferred EPC contractor for Connah's Quay Low Carbon Power
Uniper selected Worley for its proposed 1.38GW low carbon power station at Connah's Quay, with a consent decision expected and phase one possible from 2030.
Uniper announced on 23 July 2026 that it had selected Worley as preferred engineering, procurement and construction contractor for the proposed Connah's Quay Low Carbon Power project in Deeside. Worley was selected after a front end engineering design competition that began in December 2024.
The proposed station would be up to 1.38GW in two phases, with carbon capture of at least 95 percent of its CO2 emissions. A development consent application was submitted in August 2025 and a decision was expected "in the coming months". Phase one could be operational from 2030. The project depends on consent and a final investment decision. No jobs figures were given in the announcement.
Why it matters for contractors
If consent is granted, this would be a major construction programme on the Deeside side of the Dee. Both Flintshire homes are within a short drive of Connah's Quay.
